GRADE 9 - Lesson Title: Chemical Reactions

Chapter/Lessons: Chapter 7: Describing Reactions, Types of Reactions, Energy Changes, Reaction Rates, Equilibrium

    Learning Objectives

    1. Interpret chemical equations in terms of reactants, products, and conservation of mass.
    2. Balance chemical equations, covert between moles and mass of a substance, calculate amounts of reactants and products.
    3. Classify chemical reactions as synthesis, decomposition, single-replacement, double-replacement, or combustion; describe oxidation-reduction reactions.
    4. Describe the energy changes during reactions, classify reactions as endothermic or exothermic, explain conservation of energy.
    5. Explain what a reaction rate is; describe the factors affecting reaction rates.
    6. Identify and describe physical and chemical equilibria and describe factors affecting chemical equilibrium.
