    GRADE 8 - Lesson Title: The Sun - Earth - Moon System

    Textbook and Chapter: Blue Chapter 3

    Objectives

      1. REVIEW ALL CONCEPTS MONDAY FOR TEST TUESDAY.
    1. Examine Earth’s physical characteristics.
    2. Differentiate between rotation and revolution.
    3. Discuss what causes seasons to change.
    4. Identify phases of the Moon and their cause.
    5. Explain why solar and lunar eclipse occur.
    6. Infer what the moon’s surface features may reveal about history.
    7. Describe recent discoveries about the moon.
    8. Examine facts about the moon and space travel.

    Learning Tasks

    Content delivery will be via key notes slide show, with students utilizing note taking worksheets. Cooperative learning will be an integral part of the learning process (Think, write, pair, share).

    Textbook and Chapter: Blue Chapter 4 and 5

    Objectives

    1. Students will be able to explain the following LEAP centered Earth Science Terms:
      1. Solar system, Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Great Red Spot, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, Pluto, comet, meteor, meteorite, asteroid, constellation, absolute magnitude, apparent magnitude, light-year, photosphere, chromosphere, corona, sunspot, nebula, giant, white dwarf, supergiant, neutron star, black hole, galaxy, Big Bang Theory.

    Learning Tasks

    Content delivery will be via key notes slide show, with students utilizing note taking worksheets. Cooperative learning will be an integral part of the learning process (Think, write, pair, share).

    1. Students will define all vocabulary words using textbooks.
    2. Students will be assigned each a different planet and conduct research on the assigned planet in order to complete a planet fact sheet with a color drawing. Students will also make Planet T-shirts of the assigned planet, including factual information and drawings to be worn to school.
    3. Chapter 4 - Key Terms - Res Page 22; Inner and Outer Planets - Res Page 28 and 29.
    4. Chapter 5 - Key Terms - Res Page 22; Reinforcement - Stars - Res Page 27.

    Evaluation/Assessment

    1. Class discussions, assessment questioning.
    2. Planet T-Shirts and informational planet fact sheets.
    3. Vocabulary Test on Chapters 4 and 5, Monday February 6th.
