Eighth Grade / Sept. 7 - 10

Homework for the dates of Sept. 7 - 10

Tuesday night: Grammar exercises in the Voyages textbook (pages to be assigned in class).
Wednesday night: Write down all the steps required to complete one of your everyday activities (i.e. brushing your teeth, getting ready for bed, fixing a snack).
Thursday night: Write the first three paragraphs of the process (how-to) essay rough draft.
Friday night: Enjoy your weekend!

Creative Writing/ Aug. 30 - Sept. 3

Monday: Workshop intros of original fairy tales; edit for mechanical errors and content.
Tuesday: Spend class time writing endings for fairy tales and adapted tales.
Wednesday: Workshop intros of adapted tales; edit for mechanical errors and content.
Thursday: Read and discuss Flannery O Conner's "Good Country People"; retell the story from the boy's point-of-view.
Friday: Turn in fairy tales and adapted tales (final drafts typed); read one work per student.

English III/ Aug. 30 - Sept. 3

We will spend this week constructing your Progressive newspapers on Pages with the Macs. You'll also be introduced to a new literary unit on the Suffragettes and early Feminist writers. If you or anyone in your Progressive groups needs to stay after school to work longer on the projects, please let us know a day in advance!

P.S. Begin checking the online gradebook for your grades on Summer Reading assignments and the Jungle quiz.

8th Grade English/Aug. 30 - Sept. 3

Homework for the week: (This week, we will have a quiz on literary terms on Wednesday and an exam on "The Old Man and the Sea" and Hemingway on Friday. Students should spend a bit of homework time each night this week studying for these exams.)

Monday night: Read the remainder of Hemingway's "The Old Man and the Sea"
Tuesday night: Study!
Wednesday night: Worksheet reviewing punctuation and worksheet reviewing parts of speech.
Thursday night: Study!
Friday night: Enjoy your weekend. : )

Aug. 23: Read Salenger's "A Perfect Day for Bananafish"
Aug. 24: Workshop character pieces ... more info on characterization.
Aug. 25: Discussion and exercise involving realistic dialogue.
Aug. 26: Discussion and exercise involving setting and conflict.
Aug. 27: Review and track the elements of short story; read and evaluate Faulkner's "A Rose for Emily."

Aug. 25: Read pages 81 - 95 of Hemingway's "Old Man and the Sea"; complete editing and revising personal narrative.
Aug. 26: Read pages 96 - 110 of Hemingway's "Old Man and the Sea"; complete final draft of personal narrative.
Aug. 27: No homework over the weekend!
