Parent Homework :)

Parents,
A small but very important daily assignment for you:

Please check your child's red mailbox folder each evening and empty the back pocket. Initial the date and note your child's conduct grade for that date on their conduct calender. Please check that all homework is complete. I sometimes make two-sided copies to conserve paper, so please check if a worksheet also has work on the back to complete as well.

October update:

I am extremely proud to announce that my 1-A Math students's class average is 92.1%. We are currently working on place value and are going to start timed subtraction facts sheets within the next two weeks. Keep it up first graders!!!!

I would like to remind parents of students who are in my reading group to look for your child's orange "Connections" folder each day. Please have your child read the selected story for 1 min and mark the last word read with a pencil and date it. Also look for word lists that may be practiced also.

During the month of October, we will be studying the mysterious Mayans and the Aztecs and your child will be assigned a project. Details and instructions coming home soon.

APCS faculty and staff are gearing up for our annual "Fall Festival". Look for notes to come in your child's red mailbox.

With the current cool snap, colds are sure to become prevalent among students. If you would like to send anti-bacterial wipes to school they will be appreciated. You will be credited with volunteer hours.

Fun With Facts

The first graders are having a great time creating both addition and subtraction fact families. The entire class is currently averaging 99.5% accuracy with their "doubles" and are doing this in 1 min. Wow!!! Great Job guys!

A big thank you to all parents who attended Open House. I hope we were able to answer all questions and encourage parents to keep open a line of communication with both Mrs. Dani and I. It is key to our success.

First Grade News

Our school year is off to a great start in the first grade. We are hard at work learning addition math facts, consonant sounds, sentence structure, and the continents and oceans of our world. A reminder to parents: please plan to attend Open House this Thursday. Mrs. Dani and I look forward to meeting all parents and are anxious to inform them of the day to day operations of the first grade.
